Trump seems oblivious to historical lessons

Posted

Historically, the NATO alliance has, along with NORAD, been the lynchpin of America’s security. It has been the sword and shield of the free world’s defense against the brutal regimes of Stalin and Putin, our fortress against terrorism. It is a reflection of America herself, advancing freedom, liberty, democracy, and self-determination, the light of hope in a world of darkness.
But now, under the false pretense of security, Trump has threatened to tear this asunder, even suggesting military action against our most loyal NATO ally, Denmark, to seize Greenland, a NATO-protected sovereign entity. Even though Greenland is well defended, Trump claims Chinese and Russian ships are swarming around Greenland. This statement is, as always, false. No credible evidence supports this. There are no Chinese ship swarms and Russia, with half its Black Sea fleet sunk by Ukraine, is in no position to challenge NATO in Greenland.
Here’s the reality: America already has a military base in Greenland and has a treaty under which we can build more. We are free to invest in Greenland to gain access to resources, and even though 80 percent of Americans and Greenlanders are against a U.S. takeover, Trump continues to threaten an illegal war against NATO, which could devastate our economy and destroy everything America stands for. It could well bring us to the threshold of WWIII and hand Putin his greatest victory — the destruction of NATO.
Why would Trump do this? The answer is not security or resources. It is in the words of Trump himself, who said taking over Greenland “is important for me psychologically and for my national success.” For the love of God, Trump is pushing us to the abyss because owning Greenland pacifies his ego and narcissism. What have we done to ourselves?
Just maybe Congress will finally find the patriotic courage to stop this insanity. It seems the specter of the destruction of 1939, that foisted the horrors of WWII on us, has not been laid to rest. It has conjured itself to the highest office in this land. Either we stand for freedom or repeat the tragedy of history.
