Stauber shows environmental leadership, sort of

I am writing about Rep. Pete Stauber on the pages of the Timberjay because I don’t believe he reads mail sent from outside his district.  Although I own property in St. Louis County, pay taxes there, spend thousands of dollars supporting local businesses, and donate generously to local charities, I am not represented by Mr. Stauber, and I have no confidence that he cares in the least about my concerns.   Perhaps someone inside his circle will tell him about my letter.
However, I do note that we share at least one concern, smoke generated from Canadian wildfires.   I am encouraged that he was emboldened enough to co-write a letter about it to Mark Carney, the Canadian Prime Minister.   It would have been bolder to write it himself and not with his fellow Trump-worshiping Republican colleagues, but it is a start.   It is evidence that he does care at least a little bit about Minnesota, and a little less about fealty to the Emperor.
As a further step in showing that he cares, maybe he could focus his efforts on climate change, which is a global issue.  As best I can tell, Mr. Stauber’s Emperor denies climate change and Mr. Stauber is not willing to acknowledge it.  One of the reasons those pesky Canadians have so many annoying fires is the forests are so dry due to lack of rainfall.  Maybe Mr. Stauber could write a letter to the Emperor to inform him that climate change exists.  Although it would be political suicide, he could even suggest that the Emperor do something about it.
So, I hope Mr. Stauber keeps up that bold environmental leadership evidenced by his whining letter to the more direct victims of the wildfires.   We Minnesotans are environmental leaders, and we encourage even the faintest of actions our elected leaders take in that direction.
