SILVER BAY — North Shore flipped the script on the Timberwolves on Monday, as they topped Ely 3-2 in overtime, avenging their 3-2 loss earlier in the season. For Ely, Monday’s disappointment in their final regular season contest, dropped their record to 7-14, with the playoffs set to get underway on Saturday.
The Wolves dominated much of the game here on Monday, outshooting the Storm 38-29. Ely grabbed the lead at the 2:35 mark of the first period, when Jayden Zemke lit the lamp on a power play. North Shore evened the score less than three minutes later, but Owen Marolt put Ely back on top at the 7:50 mark, with an assist from Sean Merriman. But that was all the scoring Ely could muster.
North Shore tied it again in the second and when the third period ended with no scoring, the teams went to overtime. But just 23 seconds in, North Shore’s Levy Lovely scored to give the Storm the win.
Both teams were tagged for three penalties on the night, one in each period.
The opening round of the playoffs gets underway on Saturday. Ely will be seeded eighth and host ninth-seeded Moose Lake at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Ely Arena.
