BABBITT- Northeast Range came away from a busy stretch of volleyball with a tournament win and more signs of progress from a young team.
The Nighthawks played four matches at the Mesabi East tournament on Saturday, facing Ely, International Falls, Hinckley-Finlayson, and Bigfork. Northeast Range closed the day with its best result, beating Bigfork in two sets.
Head Coach Misty Roseth said the Nighthawks also came close to taking sets from International Falls and Hinckley-Finlayson earlier in the day.
Northeast Range was back on the road on Tuesday, falling to Cherry in three sets, 25-19, 25-23, 25-12.
“We would get points ahead and then get stuck,” Roseth said. “Each game I see growth in different areas, which is great for this young team. That’s a win in itself. The little improvements and increased confidence each game is wonderful to see out of these girls.”
Miranda Mackai had another perfect night serving, going 12-for-12 from the line after a 25-for-25 serving performance at the Mesabi East tournament. Mackai also had 17 set assists against Cherry.
Chloe Janeksela finished with 13 digs and drew praise from Roseth for her passing. Peyson Roseth had four ace serves, six kills, and two blocks, while Kaydence Hancock added five kills, one block, and two aces while going 10-for-10 serving.
Northeast Range will close the regular season at home on Monday, Oct. 19, against Nashwauk-Keewatin. The Nighthawks will also celebrate parents night.
