ELY – The postponement of last Thursday’s scheduled game against Silver Bay due to dangerously cold temperatures left the Ely girls just one game to play this past week, a Monday night road game against Littlefork-Big Falls that they won convincingly 83-47.
It wasn’t quite the 89-22 drubbing the Wolves slapped on Bigfork, but it was the second consecutive game in which the Wolves reached the 80-point plateau.
The Wolves’ back-to-back 80-point-plus games reflects a significant turnaround since the start of the season. For their first five games, Ely averaged 50 points per contest. In their last nine games, eight of those wins, the Wolves have scored at a 72-point average clip.
Five Wolves scored in double figures to key Monday’s offensive onslaught. Shultz led the way with 10, while Amelie Penke and Lillie O’Neill each scored 16. Ruby Lowe had 11 and Kaylin Visser added 10. Penke also grabbed 13 rebounds to notch a double-double.
The Wolves have a challenging trio of games on the slate this week, with a home game scheduled for Thursday against Floodwood, another at home on Friday against Cherry, and a Monday road trip to Mt. Iron-Buhl.
