REGIONAL— For years, the website of the 1854 Treaty Authority had been the go-to for folks across northeastern Minnesota looking for information on wild rice conditions. The site had aggregated reports from nearly 30 of the most popular rice lakes, including detailed descriptions and photographs, which were highly useful for ricers as they planned where to go in search of the wild grain.
But that valuable information is no longer being made available on the treaty authority’s website.
The Timberjay contacted the 1854 Treaty Authority multiple times in hopes of learning the reasons for discontinuing the reports. No one from the organization could provide any information.
