REGIONAL—Be aware that June is the month when area turtles emerge from their lakes, ponds, and rivers to look for gravelly banks to lay their eggs.
Road embankments are often popular nest sites for turtles, but it leaves them exposed to deadly traffic. We can reduce our chances of hitting a turtle by being aware of the increased likelihood of their presence on the road this time of year, particularly right after rainfall. And be particularly aware when traveling near water bodies.
