FIELD TWP — Home wasn’t a safe haven for the North Woods girls last week as they lost games on consecutive nights to Deer River and Hill City/Northland.
Entering the North Woods gym on Thursday with a 16-2 record, the Warriors of Deer River were heavily favored over the 7-9 Grizzlies.
The visitors wasted no time asserting themselves, holding the Grizzlies scoreless for the first nine minutes of the game as they built a 17-0 lead. A Brynn Chosa three ball finally got North Woods on the board at the 8:46 mark.
The Grizzlies had brief flurries where they tried to cut into the lead, but the Warriors took a 15-point lead into the break, 32-17.
Both teams started slow in the second half, but Deer River warmed up while the Grizzlies never did, with the Warriors claiming the 66-30 win.
Hill City/Northland
Hill City/Northland handed the Grizzlies a 76-49 loss on Friday.
The Eagles weren’t a particularly formidable presence on the floor, and there weren’t any big knockout runs that stood out. This was a win where bits and pieces, three points here, six points there, just kept adding up.
Chosa did what she could to carry the team, leading all scorers in the contest with 25 points. Brodeen scored 13.
