David A. Wood
David Allan Wood, 76, of Cook, passed away peacefully at the Cook Hospital on Saturday, April 11, 2026, with his wife and son at his side. Dave’s family wishes to thank Dr. Elleby and Dr. Holmes and the nursing staff at the Cook Community Hospital for their wonderful care and compassion. Also, a heartfelt thanks to Lisa at Mlaker Funeral Home for handling us with kid gloves and hugs. A celebration of life with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 18 at Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook. Lunch will follow at the VFW in Cook. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
David was born in St. Paul on March 15, 1950. He graduated from Alexander Ramsey High School in 1968. David went into the U.S. Marine Corps after graduation where he honorably served his country until 1971. He then moved north to Gheen, and later to Cook. He married his soulmate and best friend, Carrolle Ann Fultz, on Oct. 27, 1979. They lived in Hoyt Lakes and later moved back to Cook where David had his own drywall business until his retirement.
David was an avid golfer and bowler. He loved fishing and camping and a good card game. He would watch any televised sporting event, even women’s college softball, if it had a Minnesota team involved. He loved rooting for the home team. In fact, the thing he enjoyed the most, besides taking a dollar from Gene on the golf course, was anytime he got to partner with his only son for some sort of team competition. Golf, bean bags, pool, darts, cribbage, and smear to name a few. When the team was father and son, it didn’t matter what the game. They often won (VFW smear tourney for example) but it wasn’t about that either; it was about the bond they had. They both agreed they’d rather be partners and lose than to be on some other team that wins but that has no fun.
David is survived by his wife of 47 years, Carrolle Fultz Wood; son, Nicholas; brothers, Michael (Paulette) Valento, Robbin (Molly) Wood, Tracy (Deb) Wood and Troy (Diane) Wood; sister, Jody Refsdahl; sister-in-law, Roberta Wood; aunt, Elaine Miller; numerous cousins; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Lou Gardner Wood; father, Leslie Allen Wood; younger brother, Todd Wood; best friend, Mike Wilkholm; and other best friend and faithful dog, Buck.
Timothy Stevens
Timothy “Tim” Stevens, 74, of Ely, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Thursday, March 26, 2026, after a battle with COPD. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
He is survived by his sister, Dr. Julie Stevens; son, Robert “Bob” Kellogg; daughter, Amanda Stevens; daughter-in-law, Amy Kellogg; and grandchildren, Cole Kellogg, Courtney Kellogg (fiancee Marshall Murphy), Kyler Matteson-Stevens and Kasen Matteson-Stevens.
