ELY — At home last Friday, the Wolves jumped to a quick lead over Bagley/Fosston as Owen Marolt, with assists from Hunter Halbakken and Rhett Johnson, lit the lamp just ten seconds into the first period.
But the Flyers evened the score late in the period and went on to notch two more unanswered goals in the second en route to a 6-2 victory.
Marolt closed the gap 14 seconds into the third period, but that’s when the Flyers took advantage of eight Ely penalties in the frame to pad their win on the strength of three straight power play goals.
Ely players spent a total of 16 minutes in the box in the third period alone, all on minor penalties. Jayden Zemke was tagged with four penalties on the night.
The Flyers badly outshot the Wolves, with 46 shots on goal to 23 for Ely. Freshman Henry Fetterer turned aside 40 shots for an .870 save percentage.
The Wolves were set to host Mora/Milaca on both Friday and Saturday. Friday’s faceoff is set for 6 p.m., with the Saturday start set for 1 p.m.
