On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was murdered on a Minneapolis street by Derek Chauvin, a Minneapolis police officer. Mr. Floyd was handcuffed at the time and was lying face down when Chauvin knelt on his neck for over nine minutes while Floyd repeatedly gasped that he could not breathe. Chauvin knelt on his neck until Floyd died.
Chauvin was charged and was convicted by a jury, because that’s how things should be done in this country. It’s called accountability under the law. He was handed a 21-year state sentence, also a 22-year federal sentence. He is serving them consecutively, so he’ll only do 21 years. He has appealed several times which has always been denied.
So, last week the Minnesota Republican Party held their State Convention for three days. On the second day, a Republican delegate called for a 10-second moment of silence in HONOR of Derek Chauvin, convicted murderer. Everyone there apparently complied. It tells you a lot about Minnesota Republicans, huh? This would be including the despicable Pete Stauber, who a year or two ago took credit for getting our state a pile of money from the feds due to a Democrat bill he did not vote for. He only votes with our dementia-ridden president at every chance he gets.
I miss real Republicans who have common sense and consciences.
