Gov. Walz has given us a real choice to make in November.
We know that the copper/nickel deposit here is huge in area but is very lean in content per ton of crude ore that would need to be blasted out. Because of that, I believe that copper/nickel can’t be mined and processed environmentally safely here and still be profitable. The years of repeated failure of PolyMet’s permit applications demonstrate that. Gov. Walz’s order, which relates to the proposed Twin Metals mine upstream of the Boundary Waters, is correct and timely. Coming before the election, voters will now be able to choose candidates who will either protect our environment or not. We’ve got over two months to sort it out before the election.
