Second positive COVID case reported at ISD 696

Posted

ELY – ISD 696 Superintendent Erik Erie reported another positive case of coronavirus in the Ely school district Sunday night.

The new case was reported in the Washington Elementary school community. The first reported COVID-19 case of the school year, reported on the second day of school, Sept. 8, was also in the elementary school community.

“The current COVID-19 active positive test count is at one, and the cumulative positive test count is now two for the new school year,” Erie wrote in his update on social media.

At this time, the Ely Public Schools require face coverings for all K-12 students, staff, and visitors in all indoor settings, regardless of vaccination status.

The Ely Safe School Learning Plan Advisory Council is scheduled to meet on Thursday, Sept. 23 to review current case-rate data of the coronavirus in the Ely community. School board members will review coronavirus data and the district’s public health safety protocols at their study session on Monday, Sept. 27. With continuing positive cases reported in the school, the administration is unlikely to alter the face mask mandate, despite a minority of district residents petitioning to have the protocols rescinded immediately.
