ORR – A Leiding Township homeowner is in a Duluth hospital after suffering burns and smoke inhalation from a garage fire on his property early Monday morning.

Michael Brockman, 70, called 911 for assistance at about 5:30 a.m. after he was unsuccessful in extinguishing a fire in his garage in the 4500 block of Autio Rd., about five miles east of Orr, according to a St. Louis County Sheriff’s press release.

Orr Ambulance and Fire Department, Cook Fire Department, Crane Lake Fire Department, and Bois Forte Fire Department responded to the scene to find the garage fully engulfed in flames.

Brockman was treated for burns and smoke inhalation at the scene and transported to Cook Hospital by ambulance. He was subsequently transferred to a Duluth area hospital for advanced medical treatment. No further information about his condition was provided.

The single stall detached garage was a complete loss. Also damaged or destroyed in the fire were two vehicles and boat.

The incident remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal and St. Louis County Sheriff’s office.

St. Louis County Sheriff, Virginia ambulance and Lake Country Power assisted with the call.
