Dani P. Wellander
Dani Paul Wellander, 64, of Soudan, died on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. There will be a service for Dani and his mom, Ileeta, at the Bauman Vermilion Funeral Home in Tower at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 18. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. A time of fellowship will follow at the First Baptist Church in Cook. A private family burial service will be held.
He is survived by his son, Aaron (Leighanna) of Hibbing; grandchildren, Kaydan and Izzik; sister, Carrie (Randy) Anderson of International Falls; nephew, Christopher Anderson of Aurora; niece, Danielle Anderson of International Falls; cousin, Karen (Ken) Perry of Texas; and aunt, Charlene (Billy) Weber of Wisconsin.

Robert M. Johnson Jr.
Robert Mathew “Bob” Johnson Jr., 77, of Biwabik, native and longtime resident of Soudan, died on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2026, at Essentia Health St. Mary’s in Duluth. Bob’s family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff and family at New Journey Residence for being such an important and caring part of his life. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17 at Lakeview Cemetery in Tower. Family services are provided by Bauman Vermilion, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Tower. 
He is survived by his children, Lori Johnson of Biwabik, Jenette (Clayton) Pratt of Tower and Jaimie (Chris Davis) Johnson of Chisholm; brother, Richard (Diane) Johnson of Arizona; grandchildren, Detton and Darrin Koski, Makenzie O’Shea, Mythias and Truce Lightfeather, Talon, Tatum and Ashley Pratt; eight great-grandchildren; and many loving extended family and friends.

Dawn K. Carlson
Dawn Kay Markley Carlson, 69, of Virginia, died on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Essentia Health St. Mary’s in Duluth. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 13 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Virginia. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 1 p.m. Family services are provided by Bauman-Cron, a Bauman Family Funeral Home in Virginia. 
She is survived by her son, Brett (Crystal Maki) Carlson of Tower; brother, Russ Markley of Minneapolis; grandson, Jack Carlson; and numerous extended family and friends.

Michael R. Marquette
Michael Raymond Marquette, 76, of Tower, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2026. A celebration of life will be held on a later date. Mike’s family would like to thank all who have offered their love, prayers and support during this time. Arrangements are with Mlaker Funeral Home of Cook.
He is survived by his wife, Sally; daughter, Karli; cherished granddaughter, Meika; loving sisters, Julie and Laura; and brother, Jim.

Lee Cox
Lee Cox, 78, of Champlin, formerly of Ely and Babbitt, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27 at the Servant of Christ Lutheran Church in Champlin, with a visitation at 10 a.m. and a luncheon to follow.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Karen Rom Cox; children, David, Kari Lynn and Steven (Susan) Cox; grandchildren, Jesse, Brandon (Ashley), Karissa, Matthew, Brody and Cameron; sister, Sue (Mark) VanTassel; brother-in-law, John (Norma) Rom; sister-in-law, Pamela (Alan) Omdahl; cousins, Sherry (Dick) Carlson and Philip (Paula) Jeffery; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

John K. Mausolf
John “Jack” K. Mausolf, 90, of Lake Vermilion-Tower, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026, at the Mission Valley Nursing & Transitional Care Center in Mission, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 13 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tower. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with Landmark Funeral Home of Virginia.
