Let’s fast forward to the day after the 2026 midterm elections here in Minnesota. The Republicans have gained control of not only the governor’s seat, but all statewide offices along with control of the state senate and house. They immediately formulate a legislative agenda that calls for Minnesota to be a right to work state, to copy and implement Texas’s draconian abortion laws, to join 33 other states and allow child marriage, defund the Minnesota Pollution Control agency, and to immediately share all voting roll information with ICE and the White House.
Once these first priorities are complete the second set of agenda items call for literacy tests at the voting booth for those of color and women, a substantial tax cut for the wealthiest and large corporations, cutting the education budget in half while mandating the installation of the ten commandments in all school classrooms, allowing all AI data centers to be built, and banning all EV vehicles along with mandatory dismantling of all home solar installations. And this is just the beginning of an aggressive two-year agenda.
This all sounds pretty farfetched doesn’t it? Well about a year and a half ago, many things that the current administration in Washington has already put into place would have seemed just as far out there as the above list.
While I disagree with some stances on issues of the current Democratic candidates, I would much rather have paid family leave, free school lunches, a $1.2 billion investment in public works and infrastructure, and the appointment of an independent inspector general to investigate fraud and misconduct in state government. Remember the federal government fired all of their inspector generals. So for me the choice this November is clear. I’m voting BLUE!
