In 2025, plagues were unleashed
And darkness spread across the land
Political appointees not fit to lead
Assumed the mantles of command

MAGA Republicans in Congress
Purchased for Trump’s use
A special police force called ICE
For the dispensing of his abuse

Kristi Noem was given command
A strange choice it seemed to be
That someone so unqualified
Was given such authority

In January 2026, at Trump’s command
ICE agents started the war
Attacking Democratic cities and states
Trying to change them forevermore

In Minnesota, they called it Metro Surge
And launched it early in the year
It filled uncounted immigrants
Legal and not– full of fear

ICE Agents, angry and untrained
Ordered to catch the worst of the worst
Grabbed women and children
And abused them first
They wear masks and ignore laws
They are given quotas to fill
Protected by promises of pardons
From the foolish king upon the hill

Renee Good and Alex Pretti were
Minnesotans killed by ICE this year
They were law abiding citizens.
Who offered nothing to fear
In her last moments, Renee Good
Smiled at her attacker and said,
“Don’t worry, I’m not mad at you”
He turned and shot her in the head

Her car lurched across the street
Her killer followed it that way
He looked at her lifeless body
Turned and casually walked away

17 days later, while on his way home
Alex Pretti saw a woman being
thrown around
He rushed to help her out
And leaped to her aid in a single bound

ICE agents turned their attention to him
He carried a gun that fateful day
One agent managed to take it from him
And all the others fired away

Alex Pretti never had a chance,
When agents filled the air with lead
He had never intended to use his gun
For trying to help, he too was dead

Then, in seconds, it was over
The agents were suddenly aware
Of what they’d done and who saw it
They turned and ran from there

In response, people filled the snowy streets
A half million strong and alive
Neighbors helping neighbors
Doing what they needed to survive

Two months later, the crowds were still there
To their cause, they remained strong and true
In March, they gained a victory of sorts
And considered what next to do.

Trump said, “your fired” to Kristi Noem
There was a list of reasons long and deep
Including broken oaths and promises
That she made no attempt to keep

The new leader was Markwayne
Mullin (M&M)
He was a former fighter– MMA
Regardless, it’s hard to believe
In anything he has to say

People thought things would get better
But it was not to be
M&M said, “Increase the violence”
“Add more inhumanity”

He continued, “Increase unlawful arrests”
“Covertly change to other goals
Focus on keeping voters
Away from their assigned polls.”

It occurred to me - To ruin elections
M&M might order ICE agents to try
To seize ballots and boxes and use
Any advantages he could buy

Voting is part of democracy
As are elections that are fair
States are assigned control of the voting
To keep it in good repair

Neither ICE Agents nor Trump
In elections have a part to play
To maintain our democracy
We have to keep it that way.
