EFFIE- The weather for the 71st annual North Star Stampede in Effie last weekend was almost as unpredictable as the twists and turns of a bucking bronc. An unexpected front moved through Friday, with light rain sending a portion of the crowd scampering for their cars, but competitors got through all of the scheduled events before thunderstorms hit. Saturday’s full house crowd had the best run of good skies, while a dueling forecast of an extreme heat warning and thunderstorms for Sunday afternoon kept the stands about one-third empty. But competitors from across the Midwest put on another dandy show for the four-day event. Timberjay photographer David Colburn was on hand to capture images of some of the local area competitors.
