Symbolism has always been an important tool for authoritarian regimes as a way to reinforce who’s running the show. Republicans are busy plastering the Trump name and brand (always gold) everywhere they can. He will eventually be their anchor martyr if they can hold onto power. If my side wins back the presidency and Congress, the “ballroom” that Republicans have drawn up and are now adding onto our White House needs to be promptly removed. Our home of freedom and democracy is no place for such a garishly gold encrusted symbol of authoritarianism to be attached.
