Forrest was born on March 27, 1934, to Emil and Mae Akkola Abramson. He attended Palo-Markham School through the eighth grade before joining his father in the family logging business. At just 14 years old, Forrest took on greater responsibilities in the operation, beginning a lifelong career in logging and construction.
In the mid-1950’s, Forrest served in the United States Army, stationed in Germany with the 3rd Armored Division as a Track Vehicle Mechanic. Following his military service, he returned home and married his beloved wife, Carol Kyllonen, at the Lutheran Church in Effie on Oct. 1, 1960. Together they raised four children and built a life in Orr, centered around family and hard work.
In the early 1960s, Forresfounded Abramson Construction. His work included building logging roads, forest service roads, bridges and highways, helping to connect communities and shape the region he called home throughout northern Minnesota. One of his early projects was the Orr Airport in 1962. The business continued to grow over the following decades, laying the foundation for KGM Contractors, established by Forrest and Carol’s children, the next generation of the Abramson family, in the early 1980s.
Beyond his work, Forrest was a devoted husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He truly enjoyed family vacations to Florida and treasured time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Forrest was widely respected for his honesty, integrity, and strong work ethic. He took pride in providing opportunities for others to earn a living and build good lives for their families in the communities of northern Minnesota. Forrest leaves behind a lasting legacy in the roads he built, the opportunities he created, and the family and friends he loved.
Forrest is survived by his sons, Gary (Ginger) Abramson and Kerry Abramson; special niece and nephew, Michelle (Victor) Gunderson and Michael Salbacka; grandchildren, Travis Abramson, Kerrisa (Joel) Anderson, Justin Abramson, Kaylee (Isaac) Bergstrom, Garrett (Uyanga) Abramson, Nick Abramson, Tim (Courtney) Hooper and Travis (Danica) Hooper; and cherished great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Mae Abramson; beloved wife, Carol Abramson; and children, Karla Abramson and Mark Abramson.
