ROCK RIDGE — The Ely Timberwolves girls turned in another strong showing Saturday, finishing second at the seven-team Steve Kerzie Invitational at Rock Ridge High School, while the boys placed fourth.
The Ely girls leaned once again on their depth in the relays and field events, piling up victories in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays while adding individual wins from Violet Udovich, Lydia Shultz, and Kaylin Visser.
Udovich continued her standout sprint season by sweeping the short races, winning the 100-meter dash in 12.12 seconds and the 200 in 24.88.
Shultz added another big day for Ely, winning the high jump with a personal-best leap of 5 feet, 4 inches while also taking second in the 400 meters in a personal-best 1:01.62 and placing third in the long jump at 14-11.
Visser claimed Ely’s other individual title in the discus with a season-best throw of 117-6.
The Timberwolves dominated the longer relays.
The Ely quartet of Lydia Shultz, Isabella Macho, Mattie Lindsay, and Molly Brophy captured the 4x400 relay in 4:23.19, while Lindsay, Elsa Ellerbroek, Macho, and Brophy won the 4x800 in 10:41.43.
Ely also picked up a pair of top-three hurdle finishes as Annika Eastham took third in the 100 hurdles in 17.96 and Macho placed second in the 300 hurdles in 50.88.
The Ely boys were led by a pair of standout relay performances.
The Timberwolves claimed the meet title in the 4x800 relay as Otto Devine, Wyatt Devine, Oliver Hohenstein, and Blake Houde crossed in 8:37.23.
Ely’s second relay squad of Grady Anderson, Alden Harding, Liam Kurnava, and Brooks Brenny added a runner-up finish in 9:36.78.
The 4x400 relay team of O. Devine, W. Devine, Hohenstein, and Brenny added a third-place finish in 3:49.33.
