REGIONAL— Severe drought now extends into a good portion of northwestern St. Louis County, while moderate drought now extends across the entire northern third of the Arrowhead. That’s according to the latest update from the U.S. Drought Monitor, which came out this past Thursday.
The latest update confirms an expansion of drought conditions in northern Minnesota, which should come as no surprise given the worsening fire conditions in the region. Some portions of the area have received some rainfall in recent days, but high winds and relatively low humidity have continued to dry forest fuels throughout the North Country this week.
