CRANE LAKE- A high-energy group of speed-craving snowmobilers flocked to Crane Lake last Saturday for the Straight Line Speed Association’s annual Crane Lake Challenge. Over 100 snowmobiles in 19 pro and 32 non-pro classes competed in the event, with most doing from four to six runs down the 4,000-foot track. It was a fast track, as Shaina Kirckof, of Brooten, will attest to. She set a SLSA world record with a top speed of 144.39 mph on a 2000 Skidoo Mach Z PS 1C, the fastest run of the day.
