REGIONAL—Minnesotans who want to weigh in on the DNR’s proposal to reduce the state’s walleye possession limit to four, have until 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 5 to do so. The DNR to is planning to make the change to update the walleye limit for non-border waters from the current six, a limit first established in 1956.
The DNR is taking proactive steps to help ensure future generations can continue to enjoy the the excellent walleye fishing the state is known for. Over the last 70 years that the current limit has been in place, many factors have changed, including climactic conditions, invasive species introductions, and fish-finding technologies.
The rule change, if approved, would go into effect March 1, 2027. The current regulation of only one walleye over 20 inches in possession would remain in place.
