At Thursday's town board meeting, long-time Breitung Police Chief Jim Hill submitted his letter of resignation, effective Sept. 11.
Hill has served in the police department for over 31 years. His retirement had been expected, but the date was a surprise to board members.
In his letter, Hill noted that while at times the job was very challenging, most of the time it was great, mostly due to his relationship with the town board members who always worked with the department to solve problems that came up.
He stated that he hopes the police department continues on, status guo.
Retirement will be a big change for Hill, who noted he has basically lived and breathed police department for 31 years. He said he will be available to help with the transition.
