Like akmngirl, I would normally not bother to register to comment, but this is just too appalling. I also agree that the sheriff's office shares the blame for this! They have known what was happening for weeks, and DID NOTHING! "Litman said he was not going to second-guess the decision of the deputy involved. “We’re working with the owner of the animals,” said Litman, who said his officers insisted that Berg provide her animals with food, water, and shelter. “We’re insisting that those conditions be met.”...REALLY? How did they do that if they never went there to check on the condition of the animals? Surely if they DID check on the condition of the animals, they would have seen that they were not being given food or water! Yet nothing was done!?! WTF!
derrangeddruid... You truly ARE deranged!!! Are you seriously trying to suggest this story was done for publicity for a kennel?! It might not be possible to be bury animals in the winter, but the problem is not that these animals weren't buried! The problem (since you seemed to have missed it!) is that they were allowed to starve to death! You said "don't you think that this is a slap in the face for people that probably cared about these animals and couldn't move through the grieving process because they couldn't bury them because of winter"... Excuse me? If they CARED so much about these animals why did they abandon them there, while they went somewhere else to live? Couldn't bring the large animals with them? What about the dog??? These animals were trapped in filthy cages without food or water, and the owner just left them there! Why didn't she at least let them out of the cages?
Certainly not the most responsible choice available to her, but BETTER than leaving them trapped in cages to suffer!!! The story of them being "poisoned" does not wash at all!
This woman is pure evil, I can only hope that she will get what she deserves. I know that reality is, this kind of thing goes on all the time, all over the country. Watch Animal Cops ...it makes me cry every time :(
She will get off with a slap on the wrist and people will soon forget all about it.
