REGIONAL — Filings for elected positions for area townships which hold their township elections on the second Tuesday in March close on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 5 p.m. This year, most townships will be electing a supervisor for a three-year term and a clerk for a two-year term.
Some area townships have moved their local elections to November in even years to coincide with other local, statewide, and national races. All townships will be having their annual meeting on Tuesday, March 10, whether or not they have a March election.
Greenwood Township, where residents voted last year to have a hired, not elected, treasurer and clerk, will not have the clerk position on the ballot, and will be hiring a clerk to start in the position in late March.
They transitioned to the hired treasurer position last March, but the elected clerk, Debby Spicer, remained to serve out the rest of her term. Greenwood, which has a five-person board, has two supervisor positions on the ballot this March.
All townships with upcoming elections are required to have open office hours Tuesday, Jan. 13 from 1-5 p.m. Filings are also accepted at other times prior to the deadline, but interested applicants must contact their township clerk for appointment times. Cost for filing is $2, payable to your township clerk.
