COOK— Whether you come for the music, the parade, the pancakes, or the petting zoo, Timber Days in Cook is serving up all the familiar favorites—with a few fresh additions to keep things interesting.
This year’s celebration runs Friday through Sunday, June 13–15, and promises a weekend packed with small-town charm and high-energy fun. From the hip-swinging antics of Elvis impersonator Sean Wallin to the real fireworks lighting up the Saturday night sky, it’s everything you’ve come to expect from Timber Days, and more.
Two brand-new additions are making their debut this year: a community health fair hosted by Cook Hospital from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, and an 18-hole golf scramble at Vermilion Fairways that tees off with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Both events offer a new way to get active and engaged, whether you’re tracking your wellness or your short game.
Festivities begin downtown Friday at noon when vendors start welcoming shoppers to browse, eat, and mingle. And brace yourself for some good-natured splashes – organizers say they’ve got a star-studded dunk tank lineup of local celebrities starting at 1 p.m. The firefighter’s challenge, Friday-only bean bag tournament, and VFW Burger Night will carry things into the evening, but don’t miss the Virgie Hegg Hospice Foundation 5K Run and Walk at 7 p.m. at Veterans Riverfront Park.
Saturday shifts into high gear with the Classic Car Show from noon to 4 p.m. Want to join the lineup? Bring your ride to the north end of River Street at 10:30 a.m. to register and be eligible for cash prizes and drawings.
But before the revving engines, start your morning with a plate of pancakes at the Cook Fire Hall from 8–11 a.m. Then it’s back downtown for the pet show at 11 a.m. (sign up at 10:30), followed by a magic show in the park at noon. Kids can hop aboard the barrel train from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and enjoy games, pony rides, and face painting throughout the day. Live music begins after the car show at the Old Muni with Doug Ellis & Friends, and the Elvis show hits the park at 6 p.m., followed by ScotFree at the Old Muni and a fireworks finale at 10:15 p.m.
Sunday starts with a nondenominational church service in the park at 11:30 a.m., followed by the ever-entertaining lawnmower races on River Street at 12:30 p.m.
Then it’s time for the big finale – the Timber Days parade begins at 3 p.m. with this year’s Grand Marshal, Jeannie Taylor, leading the way. A Drum and Bugle Corps performance at the park will warm up the crowd at 2 p.m. Stick around afterward for a final set by Eric & Friends at the Old Muni. Cook VFW Post #1757 will officially close out the weekend with a flag retirement ceremony following the parade.
And don’t forget—between the artists, crafters, food vendors, and music, Timber Days is still the best kind of tradition – the kind that brings everyone together.
