Silver Rapids to present new plan for resort redevelopment

Posted

FALL LAKE TWP — In a Facebook post earlier this week, Silver Rapids Lodge invited the public to attend a presentation at the resort to learn about revised plans for the property.
The presentation is set for 4:30-5:30 p.m. on June 22 at the lodge.
An earlier proposal for a $45 million redevelopment of the site was approved by Lake County in 2024, but it met with strong local opposition as well as lawsuits by a local citizens group as well as the Department of Natural Resources. Those lawsuits led to an injunction ordering the developers to cease work on their project and the development group ultimately surrendered their conditional use permit for the project.
According to the Facebook post, the developers have “listened, learned, and engineered an adjusted plan for Silver Rapids Lodge. On Friday, June 12, we submitted a new proposal that includes amongst other things; a reduction in the number of units, docks, and waterfront amenities to reduce traffic and improve ecological habitat,” note the developers in their Facebook post. “We are also in the final stages of completion of a Voluntary Environmental Assessment Worksheet.”
In addition, the developers say that they have encountered far more local support for their project than opposition and suggested that many are afraid to back the project publicly for fear of retaliation.
“Our hope is we all share the common ideal of sharing our lakes, our hospitality and our natural resources with anyone and everyone … not just the entitled and elite,” states the post. “Through this new plan, Silver Rapids Lodge is reimagined as a solvent, sustainable and accessible destination for generations to come.”
The Timberjay reached out to Lake County Environmental Services on Tuesday, seeking a copy of the Silver Rapids proposal. The county had not responded prior to press time.
