EMBARRASS — The Northwoods Saddle Club voted on Wednesday, Sept. 17 to accept the proposal from the Embarrass Region Community Association (formerly the Embarrass Region Fair Association). The Saddle Club will receive five years of free arena use in exchange for transferring ownership of the arena fencing. The Saddle Club will retain ownership equipment used in play day games, as well as the announcing booth and other structures. The votes were split with 23 members in favor of accepting the proposal and six in favor of moving the arena to a new location.
The community association initially brought a proposal to the Saddle Club in February. They needed to have ownership of the arena fencing to apply for grant funding for arena improvements and to clarify insurance issues. The vote followed a series of meetings with the Embarrass Region Community Association (fair board), which at times became contentious. The ERCA said they are committed to working with the Saddle Club in the future, and they have asked Saddle Club members to become active on the association’s arena committee.
Vice President Nicole Rinas posted about the vote on Facebook saying, “The NWSC WILL be staying in Embarrass and we hope to build a great and lasting relationship with the ERCA and Arena Committee… as well as the community! It was a hard decision for some people and some may be hurt by this… but please know that I as VP will do all that I can to stay true to US as a Club and what we are, who we are and stand for that proudly.
We WILL always be about horses, family, kids, and community!! We will always be true.”
