Family move ends 18-year tenure

ELY — Boundary Waters Care Center announced this week that Executive Director Adam Masloski has concluded nearly 18 years with the organization, stepping away from the role as he and his family relocate.
“We would like to communicate our deep appreciation for Adam and all of the tremendous things he has done for the Boundary Waters Care Center and the greater Ely community,” the Boundary Waters Care Center board of directors said in a statement. “His impact on residents, families, and staff will be felt for years to come, and we are excited to build on the strong foundation he has helped create.”
Masloski began his career at Boundary Waters Care Center 18 years ago and worked his way into the executive director role. During his tenure, he earned several leadership recognitions, including the 2025 Outstanding Leadership Award from LeadingAge Minnesota. Under his leadership, the care center also received the 2022 Bronze Commitment to Quality Award from the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living.
Boundary Waters Care Center is currently rated as a five-star community by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and recently completed a deficiency-free federal survey. Masloski was also an active advocate for senior living issues at the state legislative level, both on behalf of the care center and the broader long-term care industry.
“Please know that my decision to move on is not because of a lack of love or belief in Boundary Waters Care Center,” Masloski said. “On the contrary, it is because I believe deeply in this community and the people who serve here, and because I believe this step is what is best for my family at this time. Boundary Waters Care Center will always hold a very special place in my heart.”
Looking ahead, the organization announced that Masloski will work alongside Assistant Executive Director Sarah Spate during the leadership transition. Spate, who has spent several years serving residents and families at Boundary Waters Care Center, is expected to assume leadership of the community in 2026. Board members said they are confident in her ability to guide the organization forward.
Boundary Waters Care Center is a nonprofit senior living and skilled nursing community in Ely, providing long-term care, rehabilitation services, and hospice support. The facility is managed by Health Dimensions Group, a national organization that works with senior living and post-acute care providers across multiple states.
