REGIONAL- An inmate at the St. Louis County Jail in Duluth died early Saturday morning after suffering a medical emergency in their cell.
Correctional officers were alerted to the emergency at approximately 1:10 a.m. and immediately began CPR and used an automated external defibrillator in an effort to revive the inmate.
St. Louis County sheriff’s deputies also responded, along with the Duluth Fire Department and Mayo Ambulance. Despite extensive lifesaving efforts, the inmate did not regain consciousness and was pronounced dead.
At the request of the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is conducting an independent investigation into the death to ensure transparency and avoid any potential conflict of interest.
The BCA on Wednesday indentified the inmate as Jonathan David Polaski, 29, of Prior Lake. No additional information about the incident was released.
