BRITT— The former El-Roy Supper Club here was destroyed by fire last Friday, June 6, and a family that had recently purchased the former restaurant property is lucky to have survived the early morning blaze.
A passerby noticed the fire shortly after 4:30 a.m. and woke up the family, alerting them to the danger.
The front part of the structure was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived and the building was a total loss. Light winds and rainfall the night before helped keep the fire from spreading into nearby woods. Firefighters from Pike-Sandy-Britt, Cook, Embarrass, Mt. Iron, and Vermilion Lake all assisted, with traffic control by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
