EMBARRASS TWP — An elderly male driver was injured Tuesday afternoon when his vehicle rolled over in a construction zone on Highway 21.
The accident happened around 2:17 p.m. near the intersection of Highway 21 and Lehto Road, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office. The man, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, suffered an arm injury and had to be freed from the wreckage by first responders and nearby construction workers.
Deputies said the southbound driver failed to make a left turn after encountering a road closure. The vehicle struck a dirt embankment and flipped end over end before coming to rest.
Highway 21 was closed southbound at Lehto Road for construction maintenance at the time of the crash. Officials said no construction workers were injured.
The driver was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.
The crash remains under investigation.
