NETT LAKE — Interest in tribal government is running high ahead of the Bois Forte Band’s 2026 primary election, with 11 candidates filing for three seats on the Bois Forte Tribal Council.
The field includes a mix of incumbents with years of experience in tribal leadership and newcomers looking to bring fresh perspectives to council, reflecting both continuity and a desire for change among voters.
The seats up for election include the secretary-treasurer position, along with one District I representative seat and one District II representative seat.
Five candidates have filed for secretary-treasurer. They include incumbent Tara Geshick, along with Peter Boney, Carol Burr, Jeffrey Mattson, and David C. Morrison Sr.
Two candidates are seeking the District I representative seat. Shane Drift, the incumbent, is being challenged by Mildred Holmes.
Four candidates are seeking the District II representative seat. Robert Moyer, the incumbent, will face off against Cory King, Timothy O’Leary, and Alanna Sherman.
Candidate certification and challenges will take place in February, with the primary election scheduled for March 31. Polling places will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. on election day.
No plans have yet been announced for a formal candidate forum. Voters interested in learning more about individual candidates are encouraged to watch for campaign information shared on social media and event information posted on the Bois Forte website and Facebook page.
