ELY— More than 170 interested potential voters turned out here for the official launch party for Aaron Kania’s campaign for District 3A representative. Ely’s Historic State Theater played host to the event, which featured short speeches from former state Rep. Rob Ecklund and former House candidate and International Falls Mayor Harley Droba, who offered a full-throated endorsement of Kania.
Kania, who lives on Lake Vermilion, recently retired after a career in federal law enforcement and land management. He most recently served as the district ranger on the Superior National Forest’s Kawishiwi District, headquartered in Ely.
Kania also spoke about the issues he’s been hearing as he campaigns. He said mining, concern about the surge of federal agents in the Twin Cities, taxes, and fraud are the most commonly-raised issues he’s hearing from voters.
The DFL District 3 endorsing convention is set for April 25 in Two Harbors. Kania is currently running unopposed.
