ELY – The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Ely Branch and the Ely Rotary Club will co-host a forum next week featuring the four candidates for the ISD 696 school board election.
The forum will be held virtually due to COVID-19 concerns. Watch the event live on Tuesday, Sept. 22 from 6-7:30 p.m., on Ely’s public access channels on local cable television, Midco, channels 11 and 98, and on the AAUW Ely Branch Facebook page. The telecast will also be available for viewing on You Tube-Ely School Board Candidate Forum.
Candidates for the Ely School Board election include incumbent Tom Omerza and newcomers Rachel Brophy, Hollee Coombe and Darren Visser.
The top three vote-getters in the Nov. 3 election will join the six-member board for four-year terms.
Absentee voting in the state of Minnesota began last week. Early voting opens on Friday, Sept. 18 and is available through Monday, Nov. 2.
Apply for a ballot today at www.mnvotes.org. Complete the “Request for Absentee Ballot” application. A Minnesota-issued driver’s license, State Identification, or the last four digits of your Social Security number is required.
Ballots are generally sent about six weeks ahead of Election Day. Once your vote is submitted, track your ballot online. For more information, go to www.ely.mn.us.
In Ely, voting on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3 takes place at the Ely Senior Center.
