GREENWAY— The Timberwolves’ offensive struggles returned here on Tuesday as Greenway dropped Ely’s season record to 5-15 with a 3-0 shutout. It was the third time in four games that opponents have blanked the Wolves.
Greenway scored once each period to wrap up scoring. It could have been worse, as Ely goalie Ben Leeson fended off 39 of 42 shots on goal. The Wolves, meanwhile, managed just 15 shots.
The game was relatively penalty-free, although Ely was tagged with four minors for a total of eight minutes in the box, to a total of two minutes for Greenway.
Playing at Ely last Friday, Proctor scored early and often enroute to a 10-0 shellacking of the Wolves. The Rails scored five in the first period, four in the second and largely coasted through the final stanza.
The Wolves managed just eight shots on goal, to 48 for the Rails, further highlighting the lopsided nature of the contest. Alex Merriman spent seven minutes in the box, including a five-minute major for boarding and a minor for tripping. Jayden Zemke was tagged three times, all minors, while Gavin Davidson spent four minutes on ice for two minors.
Ely goalies Ben Leeson and Lewey Powell allowed five goals apiece in the contest.
The Wolves were set to visit Moose Lake on Friday. They’ll wrap up their regular season at home on Saturday night, hosting North Shore.
