The 43rd Annual Meeting and Dinner of The Sportsmen’s Club of Lake Vermilion will be held on Saturday, Aug. 6 at Fortune Bay Resort in The Woodlands Ballroom.

The featured speaker will be Fitz Fitzgerald, Conservation Director of Minnesota Land Trust’s Northern Region based in Ely. The Land Trust has been working with landowners and local communities since 1991 to protect and enhance Minnesota’s increasingly threatened lands and waters through conservation easements, land acquisition and effective land management; by providing agencies, communities and organizations with planning assistance; and by fostering a culture of conservation. Mr. Fitzgerald’s presentation will focus on protecting lands using conservation easements.

Those attending will also be treated to a mini-concert by the Virginia-based men’s choral group “The Choralaires”. This 20-member group, under the direction of Myron Cook, has been presenting wonderful vocal performances across the Iron Range for nearly 25 years.

After dinner, the business meeting agenda will include reports from board members and officers, along with election of board members. The nominating committee will present a slate of board candidates at the annual meeting. Board nominations can also be made from the floor, with the nominee’s permission.

Also featured at the meeting will be the ever-popular door prize drawings, plus the opportunity for members and guests to talk about matters of personal concern regarding club business or problems around the lake.

Reservations are necessary by Monday, Aug. 1. Please RSVP to one of the following: in Cook, Warren and JoAnn Anderson at 666-5919, jaw@lcp2.net or Dale and Nan Lundblad at 666-2316, lundblad@accessmn. com; in Tower, Jeff and Kathy Lovgren at 753-2413, lovgren@frontiernet.net or Renee and Tom Aro at 218-753-2129, reneearo@me.com. If you find you are unable to attend and need to cancel your reservation, please contact a board member as soon as possible, as the Club is responsible for the cost of all dinners.

Memberships are available at the door. Calendar year dues are: Individual-$10, Couple-$15, Family-$20, Business or Organization-$50.

Social hour will begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at 5:30 p.m. The cost for the evening is $16 for adults and $8 for children, 12 and younger. The meal price includes one free raffle ticket for the popular door prize drawings.

Attire is casual. This is the club’s biggest get-together of the year and a wonderful opportunity to visit with old and new friends from around Lake Vermilion.

We look forward to seeing you. Please mark your calendar, make your reservation, and join us in the ballroom at Fortune Bay Resort on Saturday, Aug. 6.
