Nolan is your best choice for Congress

Posted

Rick Nolan is the clear choice for voters going to the polls this fall, and we want to strongly endorse him for his relentless advocacy on behalf of mining and the communities we represent.

As Mayors of communities on the Iron Range, we know that no other region of the state has benefitted as strongly from Congressman Nolan’s advocacy for American workers as our neighbors have. Now it’s time to tell our neighbors why Rick Nolan is the best choice going forward.

Hibbing Mayor and local labor representative Rick Cannata stated, “As a community leader we can count on Nolan to fight for new infrastructure like he did when he helped secure $5 million in funds to rebuild the Range Regional Airport with American-made steel and union labor.”

Virginia Mayor Larry Cuffe stated, “Congressman Nolan’s work on the Hwy. 53 relocation and bridge project made sure our local businesses in the heart of the Iron Range would not be bypassed. Rick also worked on behalf of local miners to urge federal agencies to speed up the permitting process for the Minntac mine expansion to relocate County Road 102, helping to avoid a temporary shutdown and keeping our men and women working.”

Hoyt Lakes Mayor Mark Skelton says, “I appreciate Congressman Nolan’s tireless efforts working with local, state and federal agencies to push forward the permitting process for our local mining projects.”

Together with Congressman Nolan’s help, we’ve been fighting to save our way of life. With Congressman Nolan’s help, we have been winning that fight! We stand together with him and make it clear that we strongly support his reelection to Congress.

When we were in our most desperate hours, Rick Nolan came to us ready to listen to what we needed. We couldn’t have imagined the response we received from White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough’s visit to the Range and the increased attention it brought on the issues our communities and their workers were facing. We know it’s been said before, by Cliffs Natural Resources CEO Lourenco Goncalves and others, but it really was “the day that changed everything.”

Working with labor, industry, and the Obama White House, the new tariffs and taxes on illegally dumped steel from China and other cheater nations have made a big impact on improving the market and saving the American steel industry.

Our economy is strong when our natural resources industries like mining, timber, and energy are strong. Rick is the fighter we need in Washington to keep making that a reality, while fighting to protect working families, students and seniors in our region. Please join us in supporting Congressman Rick Nolan on Nov. 8.
