The Brothers Grimm

All in one act

Posted

TOWER- It was a zany, silly, and madcap romp through the world of Grimm fairy tales as the VCS drama club performed “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon,” by Don Zolidis, during three performances in two days at Vermilion Country School and Tower-Soudan Elementary.

The 45-minute one-act play was directed by VCS tenth-grader Kat Schmidt, who also had cameos with two smaller roles.

The play featured two narrators, played by Andrew Sauls and Alyssa Pratt, who tried, sometimes unsuccessfully, to distill the entire repertoire of the Grimm Brothers into one storyline. Student actors Shaylin Peliska, Theo Quick, Eli Anderson, Dan Kuriatnyk, MeDazway Dunkley, and Jules Schmidt took turns hamming it up as they portrayed favorite fairy tale characters, even taking on multiple roles in the same scene. The narrators also took on fairy tale roles.

The audience was also part of the action, adding sound effects to some of the storylines.

The cast played their multiple roles well, and elicited all the right laughs from the audience, especially when the well-known fairy tale characters tried to rewrite their own stories.

VCS teacher Karin Schmidt provided mentoring and assistance, as well as drama coaching for the cast.
