Update: As of Monday afternoon, the sewer line break has been repaired.
The City of Tower advises the public to avoid contact with water in East Two River and South Shore of Pike Bay in Lake Vermilion until further notice because of a wastewater release. A sewer line broke resulting in the release of partially treated wastewater into the river. Because of the potential to come into contact with harmful bacteria, the City is taking precautions to prevent contact with the water at this time. The city of Tower is working to stop the release, collect and haul wastewater to its treatment system until the sewer line can be fixed.
The city will let the public know through news media and its Facebook page when it lifts the advisory.
Saint Louis County and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency have been notified.
For more information, contact Tower City Clerk Linda Keith at 218.753.4070.
