ELY— Senior Brielle Kallberg poured in 30 points against the Bluestreaks on Monday, as she easily surpassed the 1,000-point mark and led the Timberwolves to their fifth win of the season, 72-50. “It was a real milestone for Brielle,” said Ely Head Coach Darren Visser. “It was nice that she reached the 1,000-point mark in front of a home crowd.”
The game looked a bit touch-and-go for a time as Ely started out slowly. They took a 31-24 lead into the break before blowing the game open in the second half.
“In the first half we struggled some with Chisholm’s aggressive defense,” said Visser. “In the second half we were able to make some offensive adjustments that allowed us to pull away.”
While it was Kallberg’s big night, she had plenty of help from freshman Madeline Perry and senior Erika Mattson, who scored 12 points apiece. Freshman Rachel Coughlin scored ten and grabbed ten rebounds for a double-double. Winter Sainio and Sarah Visser scored four points apiece.
The Wolves travel on Friday night to take on the Agates in Two Harbors. Tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m. They’ll be back in action next Thursday at the Hoops for Hope Tournament.
