The Highway 135 detour should be in place by the second week of October, though according to city clerk Tim Kotzian, the new section of highway might not be paved until later in October. “We really need to get traffic on the detour so the work that needs to be done before the Highway 169 bridge can be removed gets done,” he said. The city is still on track to get the old Highway 169 bridge removed this fall, which will enable work to continue on the bridge over the winter, and then possibly be completed by early July. The blasting work that needs to be done on the rock cut on Highway 169 by the intersection of the new segment of Highway 135 is still on track to be done this fall, but doesn’t need to be completed until next spring. “We are just hoping the weather holds up and it doesn’t get too wet,” he said. The rock that will be used along the retaining wall of the new bridge has been delivered. It was purchased from Up North Stone from Virginia. The stone came from local mines.
