REGIONAL— The campaign committee for Sen. Grant Hauschild has agreed to pay a civil penalty of $3,853.62 for overspending on Hauschild’s 2022 campaign.
After a review, staff members of the Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board determined that the Hauschild campaign had spent a total of $123,863.62 in campaign-related expenditures, during a time when the spending limit for first-time candidates was $120,000.
The board noted that it was the first violation by the committee and opted to impose a penalty equal to the amount of overspending, which amounted to an overage of about three percent.
Hauschild’s campaign did not dispute the overspending, but explained that they had inadvertently overspent their television advertising budget due to final placement of ads just before the election, which proved to be more costly than anticipated.
The matter was resolved back on May 30.
