Grizzlies notch 22nd win
Top Lakeview Christian, Mesabi East to rebound from first loss of the season
FIELD TWP—The Grizzlies polished off their 22nd win of the season at home on Tuesday as they beat Lakeview Christian Academy 85-43. Sophomore forward Trevor Morrison, who has been improving his numbers all season, proved the game’s high scorer, with 24 points.
The Grizzlies never trailed, and built a 20-point lead by the half. They outpaced Lakeview 38-16 in the second half to walk away with the rout.
“It was a very good game for us defensively,” said North Woods Head Coach Will Kleppe. “Lakeview Christian averages 78 points a game and we held them to 43. I think on the offensive side Trevor Morrison really stepped up.”
For the Grizzlies, it was more of the same formula that’s worked from Day One, with a full slate of players contributing offensively. In addition to Morrison, senior Tate Olson scored 17 points, while junior guard Cade Goggleye added 10. Senior Brendan Parson notched nine points, and Darius Goggleye added eight. Chase Kleppe and Tanner Lokken added six points apiece.
Brandon BarBee led Lakeview with 15 points.
“Overall, it was a good game as we prepare for tournaments in a couple weeks,” said Kleppe.
The Grizzlies rebounded after their Feb. 15 loss to Virginia, easily defeating Mesabi East on Friday night, 105-61. “For the third Class 2A opponent in a week I was proud of the way the boys bounced back from Thursday,” said Head Coach Will Kleppe, referencing the team’s first loss of the season to Virginia on Feb. 15. “We shot and passed the ball well and our defense held Tyler Baribeau, one of the best around, to four points. And Cade had an excellent game.”
Indeed, junior guard Cade Goggleye poured in 39 points and added ten assists for a double-double, along with three steals. Senior Tate Olson had a good night as well, with 13 points, five boards and as many assists. Trevor Morrison added nine points and six rebounds, while Brendan Parson and Dylan Chiabotti added eight points apiece. T.J. Chiabotti and Darius Goggleye each added six points, while Chase Kleppe and Isaiah Squires added five points apiece.
