FIELD TWP - The Grizzlies were unstoppable at home this week, downing both Eveleth-Gilbert and Two Harbors by lopsided margins.

On Monday night, Two Harbors showed promise early, taking an initial lead in the game, but North Woods Head Coach Will Kleppe said it didn’t last long. Once the Grizzlies hit their stride, it was all over for the Mariners as North Woods cruised to an easy 94-51 win.

“We need to keep our basic goals in mind,” said Kleppe. “Take care of the ball and don’t give up turnovers. Two Harbors did well trying to slow us down. It took us a half to adjust and get the ball out.”

Ian Sherman led the way for the Grizzlies with 19 points. T.J. Chiabotti had 16, while Trevor Morrison had 13 and Dylan Chiabotti and Cade and Darius Goggleye each tallied 11. Cade notched a double-double adding 13 rebounds to the mix.

On Friday, the Grizzlies used their speed to manhandle Eveleth-Gilbert 104-51.

“Our fast break points are going up,” Kleppe said. “That is what we have been focusing on. We’ve had players step up and get the ball inside.”

T.J. Chiabotti led the way, pouring in 23 points while senior Chase Kleppe added 15.

Dylan Chiabotti and Morrison each had 11 points and Chiabotti added eight boards on the night.

With the season now entering its final weeks, Kleppe said his team remains focused on taking one game at a time, without thinking too much about the post-season.

The team will be facing more 2A teams in the coming weeks, which Kleppe said will help in the post-season rankings. Big wins against Two Harbors and Eveleth-Gilbert, both of which are 2A, will already give the team a boost.

The rankings will be especially important this year since the post-season brackets will be different from previous years.

Rather than a north-versus-south competition, the top 20 teams from across the state will be seeded in a statewide bracket. Kleppe said as the weeks dwindle down, he’ll be keeping an eye on potential opponents the team has never put on their radar.

Before that can happen, though, the team will face another string of home games this week, beginning with Greenway on Friday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
