Grizzlies’ bats heating up

SILVER BAY - Last season, North Woods put together three games with 10 runs or more.

This spring? Four games in, the Grizzlies have already matched it.

The bats have been rolling early on, with North Woods collecting two more wins this week to move to 4-1, downing host Silver Bay 8-5 on Tuesday and host Chisholm 23-11 last Tuesday.

“We have had our ups and downs in hitting so far,” North Woods head coach Dee Ann Sandberg said. “I think it has a lot to do with confidence. We still struggle being confident at the plate. It’s getting better.”

Senior Alli Sandberg was the winning pitcher versus Silver Bay, scattering seven hits while striking out seven.

Seventh-grader Ana LaFave picked up two hits and a walk, scoring twice, sophomore Hanna Sandberg collected two hits and junior Kayla Bodri contributed a hit and a run.

The Grizzlies pulled away late for a high-scoring win at Chisholm, breaking an 11-11 tie after five innings with nine runs in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh.

Alli Sandberg led the way offensively, going 5-for-6 as the Grizzlies totaled 30 hits.

Bodri, sophomores Regan Ratai, Claire Beaudry, Kate Stone, Maddy Serna and Hanna Sandberg and LaFave each finished with multi-hit games as well.
