ELY- Next Tuesday may be Election Day, but Nov. 5 also marks another event much closer to home for Elyites. On that day, the jury trial of Jason Keith Gillson, age 50, will begin at the Virginia courthouse.
In September 2023, Gillson was charged with felony arson of a residence, felony assault of a peace officer by the throwing or transfer of bodily fluids, felony flight from a police officer by motor vehicle, and felony discharge of a firearm within a municipality.
During an altercation with his girlfriend at his residence on Boundary Street on Sept. 13, 2023, Gillson allegedly shot her phone and wallet with a pistol, set his own house on fire, fled from the scene in a panel truck in a chase that ended in Embarrass, and spat on Officer Bradley Roy of the Ely Police Department while being taken into custody.
Minnesota Sixth District Judge Robert C. Friday will preside over Gillson’s trial next week.
