EMBARRASS— Firefighters from several area departments battled a house fire here for more than six hours Friday evening and well into the early morning hours of Saturday, April 14 and 15, preventing it from spreading to other nearby structures. The house, located at 5388 Nikula Road is owned by Alan Scholl, who wasn’t present at the time of the fire. The home, a two-story structure, was built in 1920 according to county records.
A neighbor noticed the blaze about 8:15 p.m. on Friday and called 911. But by the time firefighters arrived, the house was nearly fully engulfed. After several hours, fire officials brought in a large excavator to demolish the building and complete fire suppression. Initial indications suggest an outside wood-burner may have caught fire and ignited the house.
Firefighters from Embarrass, Pike-Sandy, Vermilion Lake, Aurora, and Babbitt all responded to the scene. The Babbitt Ambulance and the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the incident.
